I am writing this testimony in the hope of helping others plagued with chronic pain. As a physician, it is always humbling to develop a medical or physical problem. I had experienced periodic low back pain several times in my twenties. After the birth of each of my children, the problem intensified. The teaching during my medical school days (late 1980’s) was just changing from the then accepted approach to stay in bed and take anti-inflammatory drugs. I could see that the less I did, the worse I felt. As is common in youth, the problem always improved despite any specific doing on my part. The frequency of relapses increased to several times per year throughout my thirties. I tried traditional physical therapy type exercises with little improvement. I consulted with orthopedists, chiropractors and acupuncturists. My last attempt at relieving my back pain was through an appointment with a pain specialist. Amazingly, all these “health professionals” could not explain the source of my pain. I was told that many people experience back pain and that steroid injections might help.

At that point, then 37 years old, my own instincts of self preservation set in and I knew it was time to take control of my own body. I knew Kristine Timpert was a holistic therapist devoted to restoring function and strength to those with difficult pain syndromes. I had known about Kris for several years but was reluctant to believe that I could be helped. I also knew that Kris took her work very seriously and that seeking her help would mean I would have to do the same.
After the first evaluation, Kris reassured me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me physically. She explained in remarkably detailed anatomic terms why I had been experiencing pain. As a physician I was amazed by her knowledge of human anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system. Kris promised me that I would be pain free and strong again.

As Kris predicted, I started to feel better after the first few sessions. A few weeks later I could hardly believe that I had been unable to empty the dishwasher only a short time before. After a few months I was able to sleep on my stomach, an impossibility for years. I devoted myself to sessions twice per week and began walking a little at a time upon Kris’s recommendation. I continued seeing Kris regularly until she suggested I try continuing my program at home.

It has been eight years since I made the decision to take responsibility for my pain. I know I will need life long maintenance, but what in life does not require maintenance? I have referred countless patients and my own father to Kris. She saved him from unnecessary shoulder surgery and he is now on the tennis court playing with men half his age. As a physician, referring patients is something I take very seriously. I would not hesitate to recommend any person who feels they have tried it all and still have pain. I would especially encourage those considering surgery to consult with Kris Timpert before proceeding.
